Abstract

1,044,500. Adjustable beds. H. ALTORFER. July 27, 1965 [April 23, 1965], No. 31987/65. Heading A4J. A bedstead has adjustable hinge sections 2 and 3, 4 for supporting the head and feet respectively. Section 2 is set into the desired position by a motor 28, Fig. 4 (not shown) through a gearing 31, 32 and screwspindle 35 guided in a female thread 36 of a driving push-and-pull rod 19. Rod 19 engages a lever arm 18 rigidly mounted on a rotary bar 14. A lever 15 on bar 14 is connected by a link 17 to section 2. Foot section 3, 4 is raised and lowered by a motor 29 through gearing 37, 38 and screwspindle 41 guided in a female thread 42 of push-and-pull rod 27. Rod 27 engages a lever arm 26 rigid with a rotary bar 20. A lever 21 on bar 20 is connected by a link 23 to part 4 of foot section 3, 4. A support 25 connected to lever 21 and to part 3 of foot-section 3, 4, serves to maintain part 3 in an almost horizontal position. Rod 19 has a carrier 43, Fig. 4 (not shown) provided with switching tongues 44, 45 cooperating with limit switches 50, 49. Rod 27 has a carrier 46 with switch tongues 48, 47 co-operating with limit switches 51, 52. A current supply cable 55 connected to motors 28, 29 and allocated condensers 28<SP>1</SP>, 29<SP>1</SP> is joined to a hand switch with two switch members (not shown). In one switching position the switch member causes the motor to rotate forwards and in the other switching position the switch member causes the motor to rotate backwards. The motor will stand still in the intermediate position of the switching member and also upon engagement of one of the switch tongues 44, 45 and 47, 48 respectively with limit switches 50, 49 and 52, 51.
