Abstract
104,343. Winkler, Fallert, & Co. Feb. 23, 1916, [Convention date]. Rotary machines for printing both sides of sheets, particularly two-page sheets, have an impression cylinder and a single printing-cylinder carrying the two formes or sets of formes for the opposite sides of the sheet, and the sheet, after being printed on one side, is withdrawn from the impression cylinder as far as its rear edge and re-fed by a reversing-cylinder for printing on the other side by the second forme or set of formes. As shown, sheets cut from a web W by apparatus C of known type are fed to a set of impaling-pins 2 on the impression cylinder 1 and are printed against the forme 4 on the printing-cylinder 5. They are then carried round to a transfer cylinder 3 having a set of pins 6 which take the front edge of the sheet until its tail edge is tucked by a blade 7 into grippers 8 on the cylinder 1, the pins 6 then releasing the sheet so that it may be carried on by the grippers 8 and orinted on the reverse side against the forme 9 on the cylinder 5. The perfected sheet is delivered to pins 11 on a cylinder 10, by which it is transferred to suitable delivery or other apparatus. The machine may be combined with other perfecting- machines printing four-page sheets or multiples of four pages, so that papers of six, eight, ten, or any multiple of two pages may be printed by the combined machines.
