101,284. Thenard, Simon, et Cie. Aug. 20, 1915, [Convention date]. Rotary machines; intaglio-plate printing.-A rotary web-fed printing-machine, producing sheets of variable size printed with both photogravure and typographic matter, comprises a rotary intaglio printing-machine for printing the web and having printing-cylinders of a circumference equal to the required length of sheet, a cutting- apparatus for cutting the web into sheets, and a rotary typographic printing-machine into which the cut sheets are fed, the cutting- apparatus being adjustable relatively to the typographic machine in accordance with the length of the sheets. As shown, the paper, fed from a reel 1, is printed on both sides by engraved cylinders 2, 3 and is then fed by rollers 6, 11 to the cutting-cylinders 7, 8, from which the cut sheets are carried by tapes 9, 10 to the grippers 13 of the impression cylinder 12 of the typographic printing-cylinder 14. The sheets are then printed on the opposite side by the cylinders 16, 17 and conveyed to folding-cylinders 21, 24, 27 and to delivery mechanism 28, 29. The cutting-cylinders 7, 8, which are of invariable diameter, are adjustable relatively to the cylinder 12, as indicated by the dotted lines, in accordance with the length of the sheet, so that the grippers 13 may take the sheet at the moment the sheet is cut.
