Abstract

1,043,359. Capacitors. TELEGRAPH CONDENSER CO. Ltd. May 2, 1963 [May 18, 1962], No. 17332/63. Heading H1M. A capacitor comprises a metal can 1 containing a wound capacitance element 3 and has a bushing 34 of thermosetting plastic material in the open end which is moulded about conductive plugs 21, 23. These plugs are connected to the conductor tabs 7 of the capacitor element and weld - ed externally to lead wires 15, 17. Suitable thermosetting plastic materials for the bushing are dialkyl phthalate melamine formaldehyde or phenol formaldehyde. The bushing is sealed to the can by means of a resilient O-ring 27 of natural or synthetic rubber and is preferably formed with an internal projection 30 for preventing flashover between the terminals. For use as an electrolytic capacitor the can should have an inner surface which is not attacked by an electrolyte, e.g. silver, tantalum or aluminium, and multilayer can constructions can be used. For non-electrolytic capacitors, the can may also be of steel or brass. The can may have a non-conductive liner such as paper, or the capacitance element may be wrapped in polyethylene terephthalate tape.
