Abstract

1,042,167. Repairing furnace tapholes. VEREINIGTE OSTERREICHISCHE EISENUND STAHLWERKE A.G. Oct. 17, 1963 [March 15, 1963], No. 41118/63. Heading F4B. [Also in Division B5] A device for repairing tapholes in furnaces which have become enlarged with use, comprises a peripherally perforated tube 1 joined to, or integral with, an imperforate tube 7 in which a reciprocal head member, having an actuating shaft 10, is located. The head member has conical central portion 8 and four blades 13, and is guided by a tubular member 10, the lower end of which carries a sealing ring 12 which, in use, prevents any back-flow of material from tube 1 to tube 7. In operation, tube 1 is filled through door 17 and the head member and guiding tube inserted into tube 7 and advanced into contact with said material. Tube 1 is then inserted into the taphole and rotated, by handles 18, so that clips 4 lock with the bayonet type catch 6 on the surface of the furnace. Shaft 10 is then rotated and the head member advanced further so that the material is forced through perforations 5 into the annular space between the bore of the taphole and the tube 1. When sufficient material has been introduced the tube 1 is rotated to release the locking mechanism 6, 4, and withdrawn, thus leaving a taphole of the required dimensions.
