Abstract

Methyl chloroform is stabilized against metal induced decomposition by the addition of a 1:3-dioxane. The dioxane, which suitably has a boiling-point not above 130 DEG C., is generally present in an amount of 0.5-7%, preferably 3-5%, by weight of the methyl chloroform; 1:3-dioxane and 2-methyl-1:3-dioxane are particularly favoured. It is preferred also to include a nitroalkane, especially one having a boiling-point not above 130 DEG C., in an amount of 0.5-2% by weight.
