Abstract

In plating a base vessel using plating material in the form of a second vessel, one vessel is inserted in the other, a gap widening upwardly from the bottom being left between the vessels, and the plating vessel is forced against the base vessel, starting at the bottom and proceeding upwardly, to securely bond the plating vessel to the base vessel. A plating vessel 12 the single Figure (not shown) is inserted in the vessel 11 with a widening gap 13 from the bottom and explosive foil material 14 lining the plating vessel is ignited at 15. The plating is forced against the wall of vessel 11 and a portion 18 of hard material forms a plating on the end face of the vessel 11. A spacer means 16 engaging the rims of the vessels centres the plating vessel and may seal the gap which may be evacuated. The plating vessel may be filled with water, sand or other liquid or pulverulent material and instead of an explosive foil concentrated charges at the bottom of the vessel or electrical discharges in liquid may be employed.
