Abstract

1,041,511. Spray producers. JOHNSTONE BROS. (ENGINEERING) Ltd., and A. B. BONE. June 2, 1965 [March 3, 1964], No. 9044/64. Heading B2F. Apparatus for spraying tar &c. comprises a pair of parallel spray bars 16, 19 transversely arranged with respect to the direction of travel of the apparatus and continuously reciprocated longitudinally. The bars are 16 and 19 are reciprocated by hydraulic rams 23 and 27 respectively which are connected through conduits with a cyclically variable source of fluid pressure. The bars may alternatively be reciprocated mechanically by crank mechanisms, Figs. 3 and 7 (not shown). The spray bars are vertically adjustable and spray shields, Fig. 2 (not shown) limit the spray area. The spray outlets are controlled by valves and the stroke of reciprocation of each bar is arranged to be less than the spacing between adjacent outlets. The rate of reciprocation may vary with the speed of the apparatus and the embodiments of Figs. 3 and 7 may be driven from the road wheels, from a power take-off shaft, or by a separate motor carried by the apparatus. Such reciprocating may be formed as two overlapping units, Figs. 5-8 (not shown) the amount of overlap being adjustable. The spray bars are preferably reciprocated 180 degrees out of phase.
