Abstract
1,041,074. Valves. W. D. LUDWIG. April 30, 1963, No. 17017/63. Heading F2V. A main spool valve 50 has lands 58, 55 and a piston 52 at each end which slides in a cylinder 41; the spool valve body 10 is bolted to a base 11 forming a fluid manifold. The valve 50 cooperates with bores 46-49 in partitions between chamber 13-17; the centre chamber 15 is connected to supply, the end chambers 13-17 to exhaust and the intermediate chambers 14, 16 to motor ports. A solenoid-actuated pivotvalve 72 disposed in the spool valve has two closure parts 74, each of which controls the supply and exhaust of fluid to and from its respective cylinder 41. The lands 55, 58 are provided with sealing rings 59, 60 whilst cushions 85 are arranged to absorb the impact of the spool valve. With the solenoid 105 de-energized the pilot valve is held in -the rightward position shown by a spring 90 and fluid from chamber 15 can only pass to the right-hand cylinder 41 via a port 68 and the interior of the spool valve 50 and urges the latter leftwards. In this position of the valve 50 the chamber 15 is also connected to motor chamber 14 whilst the other motor chamber 16 is open to exhaust chamber 17. When the solenoid is energized the pilot valve 72 is moved to the left against its spring 90 so opening the right-hand cylinder 41 to vent through openings 87 and admitting pressure fluid to the left-hand cylinder 41 whereupon the spool valve 50 is moved to reverse the chambers connected to the motor. In another form, the spring and associated lockable cover are replaced by a second solenoid and cover. In a further embodiment, the interior of the spool valve is provided with a rubber tube acting as non-return valve for the fluid passing to the valve-actuating cylinders.
