A web feeding device for a printing machine of the type described in Specification 950,053 comprises at least one pin feed device adapted for intermittent engagement with at least some of the marginal holes in the web. Pin wheels 11, Fig. 2, mounted for rotation with a shaft 12 keyed to a driving shaft 18, are of the retractable pin type, wherein the pins 13 project from the periphery of each wheel 11 over a fixed arc determined by the position of an anchor arm 33 of each wheel 11. The anchor arms 33 are connected to an anchor bar 34. The wheels 11 may have pins 13 of small diameter which will be loose in the marginal holes of the web, and one pin 13 or occasional pins 13 of larger diameter which will closely fit the holes, and so effect, intermittently, accurate registration of the web, as is disclosed in Specification 492,678. The shaft 12 is journalled at 19 in a mounting block 20. With the aid of the knob 21, the mounting block 20 may be removed from its bayonet type connection, illustrated in Fig 2 and Fig. 3 (not shown), comprising studs 25 and spring-loaded washers 28. In this manner the shaft 12 and pin-wheels 11 may be removed for replacement or maintenance. Pin-wheel feeding devices of the type described above are substituted for, or are provided adjacent to the ends of the friction feed-in and feed-out rollers described in Specification 950,053 and are driven intermittently or continuously in synchronism with the printing rollers. The invention may be used in combination with that forming the subject-matter of Specification 993,911.
