A catamenial garment for holding sanitary napkin in position comprises an elastic waist band 11, an elastic web 16 having a plurality of gathers formingtransverse ridges extending from the front of the waistband through the crotch to the rear of the waistband, and fabric side portions 7 joined to the lateral margins 17 of the elastic web at the front and back. Adherent fabric 23 (Figs. 1 and 2 not shown) on the inside of the web retains a sanitary napkin against the web. The leg openings 30, which are edged with elastic 31 or woven fabric, are defined by lower edges of the fabric side portions and the elastic web in the region of the crotch. The elastic web comprises 11% rubber, 57% cotton and 32% rayon.
