Abstract

1,039,725. Winding yarns. LEESONA HOLT Ltd. Aug. 27, 1964 [Sept. 19, 1963], Nos. 36857/63 and 42744/63. Heading D1D. A yarn is wound at a constant tension by passing the yarn from a supply package around a friction wheel which is rotated at a speed greater than the winding speed, and then passing the yarn to a tension controller-for example of the double disc type-before winding the yarn, the arrangement being such that the yarn is substantially tension free in the zone between the wheel and tension controller, the wheel being adapted to grip the yarn if the tension of the yarn in the zone starts to increase and to allow the yarn to slip thereon when the yarn is substantially tension free in the zone. As shown the friction wheel 18 comprises two discs having interdigitated strips 23. A yarn stop motion is provided downstream of the tension controller to stop, on yarn breakage or failure, the electric motor driving the friction wheel, or by means of a clutch, just the wheel.
