Abstract

1,039,493. Moulding transmission. GATES RUBBER CO. April 1, 1964, No. 13419/64. Heading B5A. A reinforced power transmission belt is formed by helically winding the reinforcement 22 about a grooved, or similarly configured mandrel 12, surrounding the mandrel by a mould 14, injecting material, e.g. rubber or thermosetting resin, into the cavity formed between said mould and said mandrel, vulcanizing or curing said material, and finally cutting the cylindrical sleeve thus formed into a plurality of endless belts The mould cavity is first evacuated through pipe 19 and the material 17 then introduced, under superatmospheric pressure if required, from pot 16 through pipe 18. The mould and mandrel may be situated vertically if required. The reinforcement may alternatively comprise a tubular sheet of material or an overlapping sheet (see Fig. 3, not shown), and the mould may carry internal grooves as in Fig. 4 (not shown) so that a series of V-belts are formed.
