[Also in Division B2] In a centrifugal blower, particularly for charging or supercharging I.C. engines, a spiral casing 11 is offset laterally of the discharge from the rotor 12 to produce a vortex flow. Any impurities, such as dust or soot are thereby concentrated in the outer region of the flow and are blown through one or more tangentiallyinclined and forwardly-directed openings 14. The openings are provided at the end of a pocket 15 formed by the end of a flared extension 13 of the casing and a pipe 16 receiving the dust-free air or gas.
