Abstract

1,039,222. Hot-water boilers; heat exchanger tubes. RADIATION Ltd. Sept. 14, 1962 [June 16, 1961], No. 21875/61. Headings F4A and F4S. A metal heat exchange wall is faced on one side with a thin flexible lining of a metal not attacked by the heat exchange fluid flowing over that side of the wall, the lining being secured only at the periphery of the wall and being pressed against the wall by the pressure of said fluid. The lining may have corrugations or lines of weakness therein such as to impart to it the required degree of flexibility. Fig. 1 shows part of a gas-fired instantaneous water heater in which the water flows through externally-finned aluminium tubes 2, each fitted with a copper liner 5 or 6 in accordance with the invention, 0À002 to 0À003 inch thick and brazed to fitments or ferrules 7 at the ends of the tubes. In another form of gas-fired water heater described (Fig. 2, not shown), the liner 13 forms the inner wall surface of a water jacket 12 surrounding the burner chamber.
