Abstract
1,039,126. Structural joints. JOHN LAING RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT Ltd. Jan. 11, 1965 [Nov. 21, 1963], No. 45964/63. Heading E1V. A joint between structural members 11, 10 comprises a co-acting male formation 16, 17 and female formation 12, 13 on the respective members, load-bearing metal register plates 15, 14 adjacent the male and female formations on the respective members, and grout or quick setting jointing compound which may comprise synthetic resin adhesives, which initially is introduced into the female formation and some of which is displaced on introduction of the male formation to spread between at least some of the coacting surfaces of the joint. The position of the members transversely of the plane of the joint may be adjusted by shims introduced between the plates 14, 15, Figs. 1, 3, 4 and 5 (not shown) or by mounting the plate 14 on a screwed thimble 21 which may be rotated to adjust the position of the plate 14 in said transverse direction. The projecting dowel 17, which forms part of the male formation may be formed by projecting reinforcement of a reinforced concrete member, and the recess 13 of the female member may be a sleeve carried by reinforcement. The plates 14, 15 may be welded to reinforcement. The invention described relates to connections between two superimposed columns or a column and beam. When the connection between two superimposed columns is at floor level, the jointing compound may be displaced into the gap between the columns and floor slab, Figs. 4 and 5 (not shown).
