Abstract
Apparatus for coating moving webs comprises a coating roller 2, the Fig. (not shown), and two spaced apart guide rolls 8, 9 which are also spaced from the coating roller. The guide rolls 8, 9 are mounted on a frame 10 which can be moved towards or away from the coating roller on guides 11, so that a web 6 may be moved out of or into contact with the roller 2, the movement being effected by a pneumatic cylinder 14. The web 6 passes from roll 8 to roll 9 in arcuate contact with the roller 2 which is furnished with coating material by an adjustable bath 4. The movement of the frame 10 may be automatically integrated with the stopping and starting of the coating machinery. In a modification, one of the guide rolls may be movable relative to the movable support frame.
