Abstract

In the manufacture of diisocyanates by reaction of diamines with phosgene in known manner, use is made of diaminocyclohexanes of the formula <FORM:1036980/C2/1> in which each symbol R denotes an alkyl group. The reaction may be effected in gaseous or liquid phase, and in the latter event decahydronaphthalene is the preferred solvent. Examples are given of the phosgenation of 3-aminomethyl-3,5,5 - trimethylcyclohexylamine, which may be prepared by reaction of isophorone with hydrocyanic acid followed by hydrogenation of the resulting nitrile in the presence of ammonia.
