Abstract

A two-for-one twisting frame has, remote from the twisting-position at least one pneumatic device for threading-up a winding-off package, so that delay caused when the winding-off-package has to be threaded up at the twisting-position is avoided. The package-carriers are of the type described in Specification 992,909 having a cone-shaped member for insertion in a tapering socket of the revolving member of the twisting-spindle. The revolving guide plate of the spindle has a slot for the egress of yarn communicating with one in the socket and arranged to lie in a particular direction when the spindle comes to a halt, while the balloon limiter may be arranged to swing open to facilitate drifting. A frame has a number of threading-up devices each comprising a recepticle 24 (Fig. 2, not shown) communicating at 25 with a suction-pipe 26. A spring-urged sleeve 27 slides in the recepticle and comprises a tapering socket 29 a seal 30 with a duct 31, a thread-chamber 32 closed by a screen 33 and ducts 34 leading to a groove 35. The socket receives a conical member 9 of the package carrier and when the sleeve is depressed, the inside of a tube 15 is placed into communication with the suction-pipe 26, so that thread placed in the inlet of tube 15 is drawn down to collect in chamber 32. The carrier is so threaded-up is transferred to one of a number of waiting positions 38, Fig. 1, (not shown), in readiness to be moved to a twisting position when one becomes vacant, the thread-end being meanwhile gripped in a clip 39. At the twisting-position, the spindle is driven by a wharve 4 held in contact with a driving-belt by an idler 3. When the yarn here is exhausted or broken, the carrier is lifted out of its socket, and transferred to one of the waiting positions 38 to await its turn to be transferred to a threading-up position. It is replaced by a threaded-up carrier from the waiting position, the yarn being put into a slot 13 and lead over a guide 22 to be joined to the end depending from the take-up means.
