Abstract

1,036,545. Sewing machines. UNION SPECIAL MACHINE CO. March 4, 1965 [March 5, 1964], No. 9201/65. Heading D1G. In a blind-stitch machine a curved needle 112 co-operating with a rotary looper 116 is carried by a needle bar 114 rotatably mounted and axially slideable on an eccentric portion 162 of a pin 120 secured by a setscrew 170 in a lug 122 of the frame. The needle is adjustable relative to the work by adjusting the angular position of this eccentric pin by a screwdriver slot 172. The needle bar is oscillated by a connecting rod 124 from a crankpin 128 driven by gearing 132,134 from the main shaft 118 and reciprocated along pin 120 by a bell-crank lever 136 driven by cam 148. A spring-pressed work support 154 with a plunger 156 having a work bending tip 158 cooperates with a fixed apertured work engaging plate 110. The support 154 and plunger 156 are lowered for the insertion of work between them and the plate 110. In a modification, Fig. 11 (not shown), a V-shaped needle bar 214 is rotatably mounted upon a pair of eccentric pins 206, 208 which are simultaneously adjusted by a forked spanner bar for adjusting the needle position. The needle may be positioned sideways by axial adjustment of these two eccentric pins in their mounting.
