Abstract
1,035,292. Inspection chambers; building blocks. H. C. HUGHES. Aug. 12, 1964 [Aug. 13, 1963], No. 31853/63. Heading E1B and E1C. A sectional manhole chamber formed of precast building units comprises a shallow polygonal base ring 10 having six, eight or twelve sides 11, a lowermost taller course of pre-cast concrete wall units 15 each of longitudinal extent equivalent to one, two or three sides 11 of the base ring and two or more courses of wall units 23 thereabove of intermediate depth each extending over two, three or four sides 11 of the base ring 10 and each unit 15, 23 having a groove 13, 19 or 25 in their upper surfaces into which enter tongues 18 or 24 on the lower surface of the units 15 or 23. The ring 10 may be a single unit in two or more sections. The ends of the wall units 15, 23 have vertical grooves 20, 26 to form a joint between adjacent units by pouring grout into chambers formed by contiguous grooves. Inlet or outlet pipes can be received in openings 37 in the course of units 15 by omission thereof as necessary.
