Abstract

1, 032, 444. Spray-producers: irrigation booms. WRIGHT RAIN Ltd. Nov. 23, 1964 [Aug.22, 1963J, No.33261/63. Heading B2F. An irrigation apparatus comprises a horizontal sectional boom 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, Fig. 1 mounted on swivallable wheels 6 and supporting a water supplying pipe (41, Fig. 5) extending lengthwise of the boom and having spraying nozzles spaced apart along its length. The boom which is mounted for rotation about an upright water supply pipe 9 connected at 12 to the water supplying pipe 41, carries a nozzle 43 also connected to the pipe 41 and directed outwardly of the end of the boom remote from the rotational axis thereof for spraying parts of fields &c. not reached by the other nozzles on the boom. This additional nozzle is controlled by a valve 42, heated in the pipe 41, which is actuated by a cam 37 rotating with the pipe 9 such that in one complete revolution of the boom the nozzle 43 discharges water in four equi-spaced short bursts. The boom is driven by a hydraulic motor carried on an undercarriage 7 the necessary water supply deriving from the pipe 41. This supply is subjected to the control of a valve 40, also in the pipe 41, which is controlled by a cam 36 such that the valve is only closed for one short period during each revolution.
