Abstract

1,032,243. Hydraulic jacks. DOWTY ROTOL Ltd. Feb. 24, 1965 [March 9, 1964], No. 9870/64. Heading B8J. An hydraulic jack comprises locking means which when operative permits the jack to be extended only for a predetermined part of its travel, but when released permits extension to continue for the full length of travel. As shown, a lock bolt 40 spring-urged by a coil spring 41 holds claw-heads 39 on spring fingers 38 in engagement with an inner surface 28 of a member 19. Pressure liquid introduced into a connection 13, a connection 14 being connected to exhaust, extends a piston rod 16 in a cylinder 12 until a face 21 on the rod 16 reaches an abutment 21 on the member 19. To extend the jack fully, pressure liquid is introduced into a connection 33, a connection 34 being connected to exhaust, to move a piston 31 to shift the lock bolt 40 against the spring 41 and release the claw-heads 39 to be sprung inwards allowing the member 19 to move clear. A lock indicator 42 having an inner element 43 which engages with the lock bolt 40 is provided.
