Abstract

1,030,766. Valves. R. S. WILLIS. Dec. 9, 1964, No. 50037/64. Heading F2V. A flow control valve comprises a body 6, Fig. 1, having a longitudinally extending opening 7, an inlet 2 leading to the opening and an outlet 3 leading from the opening, a pair of relatively rotatable disc carriers 15 disposed in the opening between the inlet and outlet, a disc 19 carried by each of the disc carriers with the respective discs disposed in contiguous relation, means 26 extending into the body for rotating one of the disc carriers relative to the other, each of the disc carriers comprising a body transversely spanning the opening and having an axially extended outer marginal skirt 18 forming a seat for its disc, the discs and disc carriers having openings 17 and 20 therethrough movable into and out of alignment to control the flow from inlet to outlet. Seals 21 are provided for the disc carriers, one of which is held against rotation by a pin 27b welded to the body while the other has recesses engaged by a rotatable forked member 26 connected by a sealed spindle 28 to a calibrated actuator 34. Fig. 5 shows an alternative construction in which the apertured discs 125, 129 are of ceramic material or tungsten carbide to resist erosion, the downstream disc having a chamber 128 to reduce fluid velocity erosion effect and the upstream disc an actuator 139 with a notch 142 co-operating with graduations 143.
