1,030,351. Stapling tools. NAUCHNOISSLEDOVATELSKY INSTITUTE EXPERIMENTALNOI KHIRURGICHESKOI APPARATURY I INSTRUMENTOV. Jan. 6, 1964, No. 497/64. Heading B4C. [Also in Division A5] A suturing or stapling instrument comprises a thrust part 1 having a flared indented workhead 10 and mouthpiece 12 and on which are mounted spring clamps 17, and a stapling part comprising holders 34, 35 for holding magazines 41 of staples 15, pushers 43, spring loaded rocker arms 44 and levers 36. The holders 34, 35 and levers 36 are movably mounted on the same rods extending through the stapling part. The distance between the magazines 41 and the workhead may be varied and the levers 36 may be prevented from causing unintentional ejection of the clips or staples. The thrust part extends through the stapling part. In use for connecting blood vessels, one blood vessel is inserted through mouthpiece 12 flanged over flared workhead 10 and secured by clamps 17. The thrust part is then inserted into the other blood vessel and also secured. The stapling part is fitted to the shank of the thrust part and the distance of the magazines from the workhead is adjusted. On actuation of the levers 36, rocker arms 44 are moved against the action of their springs and as a result all the clips 15 in the magazines 41 are ejected by pusher 43.
