Abstract

1,030,342. Illuminating devices. M. C. HARLEY. July 17, 1964 [July 19, 1963], No. 28761/63. Heading F4R. A lamp for illuminating aircraft landing spaces on aircraft carriers, at aerodromes or heliports or the like comprises a source 1 mounted in a reflector 2 for producing a primary beam of parallel rays, a hood 16 outside the beam for limiting the area illuminated by the direct rays from the source and having reflectors 17, 18 to reflect the direct rays on to the area. The reflector 2 is pivoted at 4 to the bottom of a housing 5 carrying the hood 16, an adjusting screw 15 being provided opposite the pivot for varying the angle of inclination of the reflector. The reflectors 17, 18 are pivoted to the hood and their inclination is adjustable by screws 19, 20. The housing is closed by a window 3 which may be ribbed to disperse the light laterally and may be provided with pivoted flaps 21, 22 further to delimit the area illuminated. The hood is pivoted at the lower edge to a support 7 and connected by an adjusting screw 9 at the top edge to the support 7. Colour filters may be provided so that all or part of the light can be coloured. In a simplified form, the reflector 2 is fixed to an internally reflecting hood.
