Abstract

1,030,235. Binding posts. WESTERN ELECTRIC CO. Inc. March 21, 1963 [March 26, 1962], No. 11194/63. Heading H2E. A connector comprises at least one terminal member cut from metal stock of flat crosssection. If there is more than one terminal member, these members are joined together by means of an integral base 11, and each terminal has insulation penetrating jaws 13, 14, and is formed by bifurcating the terminal by means of a shearing die, from the free end to the integral base section, the functions being spaced apart adjacent to the base section to form an elongated slot. The edges 13A and 14A of jaws 13 and 14 are in intimate contact with each other at all points when there is no conductor forced between them. One arm has a rounded end 15, and the other arm is longer and has a sideways protrusion 16, extending partially over end 15, to form a conductor receiving passage, and opens into a U-shaped notch bounded by bevelled edges 17 and 18. The connector may be disposed in a support member the upper surface of which is located intermediate the ends of the sheared slit and this prevents conductors from being forced into the elongated slit and losing electrical contact. A connecting device, Fig. 2 (not shown) may be constructed by having a plurality of such connectors arranged in a predetermined geometrical array.
