Abstract

1,029,492. Corner post construction for boxes. MEAD CORPORATION. Feb. 17, 1964, No. 6529/64. Heading B8P. A cushioning packing element 12 (Fig. 1) comprises a vertically extending tubular body cut from a laminated paperboard tube. Each corner post 12 is slit vertically along the line 14 (Fig. 3, not shown) and scored along lines 15 to define wings 16 which are formed by bending inwardly about the lines 15. The post 12 may be coated with polyethylene. In a second embodiment the tubular body 52 (Fig. 5, not shown) may be cut away longitudinally to leave a gap into which is inserted a strip of cardboard. In a further embodiment the corner post 12 is of square cross-sectional area and in a fourth embodiment the tube is not slit but only scored vertically and pushed inwards to form wings. The post may be made of polystyrene or alternatively filled with beaded or foam polystyrene.
