Abstract

An area F, Fig. 3, to be measured is moved step-by-step on a transparent belt under a row of photo-electric cells C and the cells masked by the area at each step are counted. At each step a pulse turns on a first coldcathode tube T0, Fig. 4, so that clock pulses from a source G cause an " on " condition to pass along a chain of tubes T1 to T10. Each tube produces a pulse in its cathode circuit but only those pulses associated with a masked cell C pass on to a counter N, the other pulses being shunted to earth.
