Abstract
1,026,267. Clutch-brake combinations; friction clutches. WARNER ELECTRIC BRAKE & CLUTCH CO. Sept. 18, 1964, No. 38240/64. Headings FC2 and F2L. A clutch-brake device in a two-part casing 20, 26 secured to the casing of a driving electric motor 10 comprises clutch and brake discs 39, 61 splined to a driven shaft 21 and carrying friction facings 41, 63a respectively engageable with a flywheel 45 keyed to a driving shaft 15 and with a disc 64 fast with the casing by selective energization of stationary electromagnets 58, 67 which produce flux paths 54, 68. Fan blades 72 on the flywheel 45 circulate cooling air through ducts 74. In Fig. 4 (not shown) the flange 55 is omitted and the flywheel enlarged to provide a small air gap between the flywheel and casing 20 through which the flux passes. The cooling air passes through holes in the flywheel.
