Abstract

1,098,403. Cable terminals; connecting- pieces. ESSEX WIRE CORPORATION. May 7, 1965 [June 17, 1964], No. 19475/65. Heading H2E. An insulated cable 24, which may incorporate a wire wound resistor 22, is terminated by removing at 26 a part of the insulation near, but not at, its end, placing a ferrule 10 over it, making a connection to the wire 22 where the insulation has been removed and deformin the ferrule near the connection to compress the insulation so as to help to support the connection. The connection may be effected by crimping in a portion 30 of the ferrule between parallel slits 32, or two opposed portions, Fig 10 (not shown), or by crimping in one or two triangular or rectangular tongues, Figs. 5-8 and 11 (not shown). Alternatively, a slug of lead (36), Fig. 9 (not shown), may be held in the space 26 from which the insulation has been removed. The ferrule is deformed into the insulation along the two edges of a butt join (28).
