A conveyer belt has rubber projections 11 attached to it or moulded integrally with it and the projections may provide guides for disc idlers 13, Fig. 2 (not shown). In Fig. 3 (not shown), projections 11 are separately moulded with a tapped metal insert 14 and are secured to the belt 12 by screws. The projections may support the load and the belt may be flat in cross-section or curved by guide rollers into trough form. The projections may be incorporated on both sides of the belt and corrugated strips or edges may be applied to the belt to increase its load-carrying capacity. Examples of suitable rubbers for the belt are given. The projections may be formed by locating against the surface of the belt a mould having a plurality of open recesses conforming in shape to the desired projections, filling the recesses with a liquid latex composition containing gelling and vulcanizing agents and subsequently separating the mould from the belt which is then vulcanized in the normal manner.
