Abstract

1,025,287. Scraper chain conveyers. COAL INDUSTRY (PATENTS) Ltd. Dec. 22, 1964 [Dec. 31, 1963], Nos. 51374/63 and 51376/63. Heading B8A. Bracing chains 41 extend between a conveying chain 13a and scraper flights 18 so that the flights remain in substantially transverse positions even when subjected to eccentric loading and when the conveyer is flexed to follow a curved path in the horizontal plane. Each flight is in two parts connected by a screwthreaded pin 19 which also connects the parts to a link of the chain 13a. A trough comprises sections 11 connected end-to-end by lugs 23 which engage in slots 26 and are loosely held by chain links 29. These links are held in position by vertical pins 44. To avoid gaps in the base plate 17 and the side walls 16, projecting ribs 27, 28 and overlapping end portions are provided. Ramp plates 22 raise loose material on to the conveyer during advance of the latter and, with the adjacent side wall 15, form a slot to receive a guide member secured to a mining machine (not shown). Drive-sprocket, Fig. 4 (not shown). A sleeve 45 formed in two longitudinal parts is peripherally recessed centrally to present a series of flats on which are secured individual teeth 44 of the sprocket. The teeth are spaced to engage only alternate links of the chain 13, i.e. those which do not carry a flight 18 and bracing chains 41. Recesses 50 which separate the teeth 44 are sufficiently large to accommodate the flights where they are attached to the chain 13. The recesses also accommodate connectors 42 which attach the chains 41 to the chain 13.
