Abstract

1,024,880. Testing wheel camber. DENTLINE MANUFACTURING CO. Ltd. Jan. 20, 1965, No.2453/65. Heading G1X. A wheel camber checking tool comprises a body 1 with a pointer 8 extending from a pivot on the body, a scale 7 on the body for co-operation with the pointer to indicate the inclination of the pointer with respect to the body, a spirit level 6 secured to the pointer perpendicular to the pivotal axis of the pointer, and means 13, 14 for aligning the tool with a vehicle wheel 20 with the pivotal axis of the pointer horizontal and perpendicular to the axis of the wheel. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 1 (not shown) the body comprises a square-section tube with a screw 3 on which is pivoted an arm 4 having a flange 5 (Fig. 2 not shown) to which is bonded the spirit level 6 and a pointer 8. A bar 13 is secured in the tube 1 by a thumb-screw 12 and a pair of arms 14 of equal length with notched ends 15 are welded to sleeves 16 which are slidable along the bar 13 and secured in an adjusted position by thumb-screws 17. The arms 14 are engaged with the top and bottom of the wheel rim 19, the arms 14 being perpendicular to the screw 3, so that the bar is aligned with the centre-plane of the wheel. The spirit level is then levelled so that the reading of the pointer gives a measure of the angle 22 i.e. the camber of the wheel. In a modification the pointer extends in the same direction as the spirit level.
