Abstract
An emulsifying agent comprises a hydrocarbon-dispersing liquid, e.g. tall oil, an anionic surface-active agent, e.g. a salt, preferably the sodium salt, of dodecyl-benzene-sulphonic acid, a natural resin treated with maleic anhydride, a thickening agent, e.g. carboxy-methyl cellulose, a hydrocarbon fraction of the creosote type lying in the boiling range 200-300 DEG C., and an aqueous solution of an alkali metal, preferably potassium, e.g. hydroxide. The agent is used in the preparation of bitumen emulsions containing 2.5-5% of the agent, 60% of bitumen, and the remainder water, for mixing with Portland cement or other aggregate in the manufacture of road-surfacing compositions.
