Abstract

1,024,555. Washing machines. PHILCO CORPORATION. Feb. 21, 1963 [Feb. 21, 1962; March 2, 1962], No. 7006/63. Heading D1A. A washing machine comprises a wobble-type agitator 31 centrally disposed within a tube 21 which has a rotary basket 23 for spin-drying. The agitator 31 is driven by an inclined shaft portion 32 through a wobble member 33 which is coupled to the agitator by arms 53 which extend through openings 55 in a structure 54 fixed to basket 23 and serving to support a central column 57, 58 and enclosing the wobble-plate mechanism. A driving shaft 27 for the wobble mechanism is arranged within a hollow shaft 26 for the basket 23, these shafts being driven by a motor through mechanism such as described in Specification 1,010,560. Agitator 31 includes an undulating and flexible vane 64 and a central opening 68 through which a downward flow of liquid is induced by co-operation with the portion 58 of column 57, 58. Other forms of agitator construction are described such as in Specification 900, 535 together with modified forms of the central structure.
