Abstract

1,024,170. Jointing. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC and ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. March 2, 1964 [March 5, 1963], No. 8701/64. Addition to 989,418. Heading B3V. A method of making an improved intermediate unit for use in the method of glueing objects described in the parent Specification comprises providing the metal foil or foils 2, 3, Fig. 4 (not shown), on each side of the layer of metal 1, which creeps by the action of the forces occurring when the glued joints 7, 8 cool, by coating the initial layer 1. The layer 1 may be coated with copper 2 followed by nickel 3, which may then be coated with chromium. Aluminium, magnesium alloys and silver may also be used as coating metals. The layer 1 is rolled to a thickness of 0À15 mm.; thicknesses exceeding 0À2 mm. up to 1 mm. are also referred to. The copper layers 2 may be 18 microns thick, and the nickel layers 7 microns thick.
