Abstract
1,022,524. Erecting offshore drilling platforms. I. YAMAGUCHI. July 28, 1964, No. 30002/64. Heading E1H A method of erecting a marine drilling device 14 (Fig. 2, not shown) comprises anchoring to the sea bed (via cables 13) a sealed hollow column 2 having a concentric inner pipe 1 (Fig. 4, not shown) extending therethrough, introducing water (via a valve 5) to the column to sink one end until the column is upright lowering the column to contact the sea bed pumping water under pressure through the pipe 1 to form a bore in the sea bed, draining the pipe and enclosing column 2 into the bore, and securing the device in an upright position. Winches 11, 12 control the tension in the cables 13. When the column is secured in position, the platform 4 secured thereto by members, 17 has a derrick 16 assembled thereon. Air may be supplied through a valve 6 to force water out of the column. 7 is an exhaust valve.
