Abstract
1303594 Mooring floating structures TEXACO DEVELOPMENT CORP 19 April 1971 [17 Feb 1970] 21253/71 Heading B7S [Also in Division E1] A salvagable foundation anchor 10 for a floating marine platform 15 having a working deck 16, comprises an apertured concrete base member 11 and an encircling buoyant casing member 12 containing one or more baffle containing ballast tanks, which members are detachably connected to one another by hydraulically actuated spring load shear pins (62, Fig. 7, not shown). For installation, the assembled anchor 10 is towed to the offshore site, the members detached from one another and base member 11 controllably lowered from casing member 12 on one or more guide-chains or cables 51, 52 to partially embed in the sea bed. The ballast tanks in casing member 12 are then selectively flooded with water or drilling mud to controllably lower the casing member 12 along the guide chains or cables 51, 52 which are supported by buoys 57, to be reconnected to basemember 11 on the sea bed. The guide chains or cables 51, 52 are then passed through the legs 17 of floating platform 15, the buoyancy of which is adjusted to bring it to the vertical position with the ends of its legs 17 registering with posts 27 provided on the base member 11, so allowing limited oscillation of platform 15 about the anchor 10. A reverse sequence is followed if the whole anchor or the casing member 12 is to be raised to the surface for re-use elsewhere. The valves and pumps used for controllably ballasting the tanks in the buoyant casing member 12 may be located on that member, or on the legs or deck of the platform 15. The tanks in the casing member 12 may be provided with agitating pumps or stirrers and used for storing drilling mud or crude oil when in position on the sea bed.
