Abstract

1,021,986. Two part couplings. FERRANTI Ltd. Nov. 16, 1964, No. 46642/64. Heading H2E. Contacts 20 (Fig. 5) having a single or multiple turn helical coil 19 are provided in a plurality of like recesses 13 in a socket 11, and are retained therein by a member 17. If the socket is to be used for valves the recesses 13 are positioned radially about a central portion 16 which may be made integrally with the socket 11 or with the retaining member 17. Alternatively if the socket is to be used for a printed circuit, the recesses 13 will be arranged in a straight line. The retaining member 17 may be provided with guide holes 18 and the dimensions of the central portion 16 may be such as to force the portion 22 of the contact back against the action of the spring 19 and so ensure good contact between the contact 22 and the inserted component. The end portion 22 of the contact may be flattened to increase the contact area, and may be coated with a precious metal. The connecting end 21 of the contact may be taken out of the socket in a radial direction. Correct location of the retaining member 17 on the socket 11 may be ensured by shaping or by a slot and key device.
