Abstract

1,024,938. Two-part couplings. CHRYSLER CORPORATION. Jan. 29, 1964 [April 2,1963], No. 3797/64. Heading H2E. An electrical connector for connecting to a spark-plug includes a cable-gripping portion 14, barrel-shaped portion 12 formed by curling over arms 22 and 24, carrying means limiting the movement of sections 22 and 24 relative to each other. The connector is formed from a flat metal blank and the arms 22 and 24 have four notches 26 cut out of them to leave projecting lugs 28, 30, 32 and 34. When the arms are curled, the lugs are bent over so that lugs 32 and 34 slidably engage in notches 26 on arm 22 and lugs 28 and 30 in notches 26 on arm 24. This allows limited, relative, resilient movement of the arms 22 and 24 but prevents them being permanently deformed. The barrel member may be reinforced by means of a spring, Fig. 8 (not shown), which urges the arms into a closed position. The spring also serves to retain the socket in position on an inserted spark-plug by means of a lug which projects through a hole to engage a shaped portion of the spark-plug. In a further embodiment, Figs. 9 to 12 (not shown), instead of a lug projecting through hole 46, the blank is formed with detents which themselves engage an inserted spark-plug:
