Abstract
A sintered electrical contact is made by compacting together a powder layer of a metallic material having welding properties inferior to nickel and iron and a layer of iron, nickel, nickel-copper alloy or silver-copper alloy and sintering the layers together. An intermediate layer of powder may also be compacted between the two layers. The sintered contact may be coined and welded to a carrier body. The following examples are given: (1) 90 Ag/10 Ni powder and less than 10 micron Ni powder pressed together and sintered at 850 DEG C. in hydrogen; (2) three layered contact of 96 Ag/4 C sintered to a Ag layer and an Fe layer at 880 DEG C. in vacuo. The following contact materials may also be used: Ag-Pb, Cu-Pb, Ag-CdO, Ag-SnO2, Ag-Ni-Cd, W-Cu, W-Ag, W-Cu-Ni, W-Ag-Ni, W-Cu-Ag-Ni.
