Abstract

1, 021, 705. Automatic voltage control. MULLARD Ltd. Dec. 3, 1964 [May 6, 1964], No. 18943/64. Heading G3R. [Also in Division H2] A protective arrangement for a generator comprises an analogue of the regulator circuit of the generator, the analogue circuit and the regulator circuit being connected in parallel and each supplying an input to a comparator which produces an output signal if the input signals differ by more than a predetermined amount, the output signal being arranged to trip the generator or to operate fault indication apparatus. As shown, the output of a generator 1 is compared with a reference voltage source 4 in a comparator 5, the resulting error signal being applied over amplifiers 6, 7 to regulate the current in the generator field 2. The error signal is also applied, by way of a current sensing device 21, to a comparator 20, which also receives an input from a circuit 14, 15, 16, 17 which is an analogue of the regulator circuit 4, 5, 6, 7 and which is connected in parallel with the regulator circuit. If a fault should develop in the regulator circuit the inputs to comparator 20 will differ, and the resulting output from 20 will trip the generator. The protective circuit may be duplicated, and the advantages of the system when used in association with generators operating in parallel are discussed in the specification. The system may be used in conjunction with the usual over-voltage, under-voltage, and earth-fault protection circuits.
