Abstract

1,021,354. Hydrodynamic couplings. C. SCHULER-VOITH, M. VOITH, and H. RUPF. Oct. 16, 1964, No. 42421/64. Heading F2C. An hydrodynamic coupling has a runner 4 having the inner surface 5 of its outer periphery either cylindrical or concave and forming a sharp, well-defined boundary line with a substantially radial wall portion 8. One or more axially extending projections 9 are provided on the wall 8; as shown an annular projection 9 is provided, but the projection need be provided between only certain of the runner blades, or may be provided at different radii between different blades or can be produced by forming a rough inner surface by sand blasting or by adhesively attaching netting thereto. The impeller 2 may be similarly formed if the application is such that the impeller and runner may have to exchange functions. In the modification shown in Fig. 6 an annular projections 21 is provided and in addition axially extending projections 22 are provided on some or all of the runner blades 23. The peripheral extent of the projections 22 is small, and they may extend over all or part of the blade depth.
