Abstract
1,020,796. Cigarette making machines. TABAK - UND INDUSTRIEMASCHINEN DRESDEN VEB. March 3, 1964, No. 8852/64. Heading A2C. A rolling drum 5 on which cigarette lengths are joined to filters has axially extending slots 7 for the cigarette groups, radial slides 8 being displaceably arranged in the slots. Connecting strips 23 are cut from a web 19 by a cutter 21, the drum 5 rotating at a speed sufficient to cause the severed strips to be spaced between the slots 7. Cam rollers 9 are provided on the sliders 8 which co-operate with a cam 18 in the region of transference of the cigarette groups from a drum 2 to the slots 7. The slides are depressed against the action of springs to allow entry of the groups into the slots 7. Suction is applied through bores 20 in the drum 5 to retain the connecting strips 23 and also to the slots 7 when the slides 8 are depressed via bores 26 to retain the cigarette groups. At the end of the cam 18 the slides 8 are released and push the cigarette groups against a counter rolling surface 17 where the connecting strip is rolled around the group between the surface 17 and the periphery of the drum 5. The connecting groups are taken off the drum 5 by a transfer device 24. Outward movement of the slides 8 is restricted by a pin 16 which runs in a slot 15 closed at one end by a member 14 with which the knives of the cutter 21 cooperate when the web 19 is severed.
