Abstract
1,020,651. Synchronous motors; control of A.C. motors. LICENTIA PATENT VERWALTUNGS-G.m.b.H. Jan. 29, 1963 [Jan. 29, 1962], No. 3661/63. Headings H2A and H2J. A synchronous induction motor has two similar poly-phase rotor windings, one, a starconnected winding 1, 2, 3, is connected directly to slip rings U 1 , V 1 , W 1 and thence to variable resistors (not shown) to give a smooth run up when starting as an asynchronous induction motor. The second rotor winding 4, 5, 6 has phase winding 4 connected in series opposition with phase winding 1 through switch 10 and phases 5, 6 connected together with one end U 2 connected to point 11 on phase winding 3 and the other end to slip ring W 2 . To obtain synchronous operation of the machine the variable resistors are disconnected, switch 10 closed and D.C. applied between slip rings V 1 , W 2 . Switch 10 may be mounted external to the machine when an additional slip ring is required to make the connection between the inner end of winding 4 and slip ring V 1 (already connected to the outer end of winding 1), Fig. 2 (not shown).
