In a two-layer stator winding for an A.C. motor with six slots per pole and phase band, as shown, or nine or a whole multiple of six or nine, the winding. having three parallel paths per pole-pair, one of the paths, shown in broken lines, is used as a starting winding. The machine is connected to the supply by switch S 1 and when up to speed switch S 2 is closed to bring the whole winding into use. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,099,622.
