Abstract

Thin, hard, high-density chipboard is manufactured by mixing wood chips, of 0.1-0.2 mm. thickness, of 10-40 mm. length, and preferably substantially square in shape, with 8-12% by weight of a synthetic resin, e.g. urea-formaldehyde, binder, and moulding mats of the mixture, which should have a moisture content of 15-25%, under a pressure of 20-30 kg./cm.3 at a temperature of 120-140 DEG C. The pressure is maintained for about three-quarters of the moulding time and is then gradually decreased to normal for at least the last thirty seconds.
