Abstract

1,019,911. Photo-insulating materials. KODAK Ltd. March 29, 1962 [March 30,1961], No. 11854/61. Heading G2H. Images are produced by exposing imagewise a non-photoconductive electrically insulating layer, containing a nonionic organic light-sensitiser, so that the exposed areas have increased resistances, electrostatically charging by the layer and developing with charged particles after non-exposed areas have been discharged. Specified polymers for the layer are polystyrene, styrene-butadiene copolymer, paraffin wax and silicone resins with aliphatic substituents. Light sensitisers are aryl azides which do not contain sulphonic acid groups, spirobenzopyrans and spiromonomethine oxonols. The development may be performed by wet or dry developers which have the same or opposite charge to the exposed and charged layer so that negative or positive images are obtained. Images may be obtained on both sides of the material, if after imagewise exposure and charging, the material is heated before liquid development to both sides; the light sensitive layer being coated on an insulating support.
