Abstract

1,018,962. Bicycles. MOULTON CONSULTANTS Ltd. April 11, 1963 [April 11, 1962], No. 14018/62. Headings B7E and B7J. A racing bicycle includes a front wheel 3 of 16 inches diameter, a rear wheel 4 of 22 inches diameter, and a streamlined fairing 21 disposed above the front wheel. The fairing 21 is constructed of fibreglass and/or perspex and is secured to the bicycle frame by stays 22, 23. The rear wheel 4 is mounted in trailing arms 8 pivoted at 7 and supported by stays 17, 18 pivotally connected to a strut 16 engaging a compression spring disposed within a bracing tube 15 extending between the main frame tube 5 and the seat tube 12. The arms 8 may alternatively be supported by an arcuate rubber spring and incorporate a friction damper, as described in Specification 1,006,563. The front wheel 3 is telescopically sprung by means of a rubber spring disposed within the steering post 6 as in Specification 937,117. The bicycle may include variable gearing of the hub or derailleur type.
